Happy 1st Birthday Ian!

Ian turned 1 yesterday.  I can't believe it's already been a whole year since he came to us.  His first year has gone so much faster than Clara's first year!  We had a little family get together to celebrate.  As you can see, he had chocolate cake, and really enjoyed playing with it.  Although he didn't eat all that much of it.  I think he was still full from dinner.  I love my sweet little guy, I am so happy he is part of our family.

Little tidbits about Ian:
  • Weighed in today at 18 lbs, 27 1/2 inches (about 10th percentile)
  • A GREAT eater!  Loves, loves, loves to eat.  Surprising that he is so small.
  • Sleeps through the night, goes to bad at 6p, still sleeping two naps at 9a and 1p.
  • Energetic and FAST, into everything all the time.
  • Although he is so fast, he is really cautious about balance, hopefully he won't get too banged up when he does start walking, he is almost there.
  • He has tender little feelings and is very shy when around faces he doesn't recognize.
  • First word: Dada.  Adam is his favorite person, he is so happy when his Daddy gets home.
  • Can sign More, All Done, and wave Hi.
  • Loves to be outside but HATES swimming lessons, in fact the only time I get to really cuddle him is after a swim class.
  • Likes music and dancing to it.
  • Doesn't like to watch TV at all, well occasionally he'll watch a few minutes of The Wiggles.
  • Really loves his big sister Clara, she is so great with him, he laughs and smiles at her all day.

As Promised . . .

Ian

Why is she posting a sad picture of that baby crying?  Well, I do have two reasons.  One, I was trying out my new camera and couldn't get any happy pictures of Ian.  He is very serious whenever I try to snap a picture of him, I don't think he trusts the lens right in his face.  The other reason is my photography teacher.  I took a class a couple of years ago and he said that when capturing images of children, try to catch all emotions, not just happy ones.  You'll find that as a parent, you will enjoy some of the sad faces more one day in the future because of the memories.  So, here is a silly face sad picture.  By the way, I think he was crying because he couldn't reach a toy he wanted.

Ian may not be walking yet, but he is a mover.  This little scooter toy is very entertaining, he just walks around the house pushing it- pretty fast too.

Something WICKED This Way Came!

It's our 6th Anniversary this year.  I am a little embarrassed to admit that for one reason or another (pregnancy and sick, newborn, no babysitter) we have never been able to do anything to celebrate our special day.  Well . . . maybe we ordered take-out, but I would prefer to think that's not good enough.  Anyway, I noticed a few weeks ago that Wicked was on tour in Jacksonville and was able to purchase the last two tickets together (that I could find on those online diagrams)!  And they ended up being great seats, close to the front where you can really enjoy what's going on.  Jacksonville is a 2 hour drive so Adam took the afternoon off work.  We thought about staying the night, but I am still nursing Ian and was a little uncomfortable with that idea.  Anyway, we had the BEST time.  Having to drive so far to get there made it feel more special, like we were getting away from everything.  We had a nice dinner and really, really enjoyed the show.  The drive home was a little long, we got home last night about 1:30a, but seemed about 3 or 4a (when did I get so old that I can't stay up that late?)  Luckily this morning Adam and the kids let me sleep in, that was my requested Mother's Day present.  And let me tell you it was blissful, I couldn't have asked for anything that I would have enjoyed more!

Happy Mother's Day to all of you wonderful Mothers, and Happy Anniversary to me and Adam on the 16th -- I love you Adam!

Look What I Found . . .

So I walk into Clara's bathroom looking for her swim suit to get ready for swim lessons . . . and this is what I find!  Can you imagine??  The background here is that Clara got a real haircut last Friday (I'll post pictures soon.)  It ended up being shorter than she would have liked.  And although she didn't really have a meltdown or a fit about it, she has ever-s0-calmly said things like "I don't want short hair, Mom."  or "I don't want to look in the mirror, because I don't want to see my short hair."  Would that break your heart?  I have been feeling really guilty about it.  The haircut isn't so bad, it a kind of a bob.  I thought it would help thicken up her hair if we shortened it.   But it really did end up a little shorter than I had in mind.  Anyway . . . moving on.  So I find this.  She really wouldn't tell me why, but is it a coincidence that this happens  so close to a "traumatic" haircut?

Results:  Luckily, and I don't know how, but she cut some hair over her ear but underneath, so as long as I don't do any pig tails for a while, you can't see it.  I am thinking that I will keep my scissors in some weird place, like the top shelf in my closet.
